So, summers are finally here and is certainly one of my most
loved seasons of the year. Mainly because we are just getting out of the cold indoor
winter days and there are so many activities I am already looking forward to.
Being an adventurous soul, I love my little outdoor escapades in
summer. However, amid our busy and hectic life, it’s very important to find a
weekend getaway which is not only spectacular but is easily accessible to us.
I planned this lovely weekend getaway to Poconos Mountain for
our anniversary outing and I must say I am glad we did this. The Pocono
Mountains region spans 2,400 square miles of land throughout four counties in north-eastern
Pennsylvania. It’s located less than 70 miles from New Jersey where I live. Not
only that but it’s also less than 90 miles from major cities like New York City
and Philadelphia.
From the serenity of nature to lovely lakes and water bodies and
tons of adventure, this place has something to offer to everyone.
Poconos have an array of activities going on all throughout the
year. So, weather you are looking for a skiing weekend with family or a couple
getaway in summer, you have it all.

We went on a lovely summer day and decided to try our hands on
ziplining at Camelback Mountain
Adventures. There are two to pick from, 1000 ft or 4000ft, we opted for the
later and it was such an adrenaline rush. We loved each and every second of it
and would totally do it again
For lunch, we stopped at a very local Zack’s
Taco Shack which had the most delicious freshly made tacos and Mexican platters.
You can taste the local spices and it was so delicious.
There are so many good resorts and hotels to choose from and it
depends on your trip itinerary. If you plan to ski, there are some extremely
good ski resorts or if you wish to experience the simple village life, you can
opt in for cottages or bed & breakfast lodges. This place also has resorts
just meant for couples as it’s known to be a popular honeymoon destination.
We stayed at a very lovely Holiday inn Express at Stroudsburg
and copiously enjoyed our stay there. The room was spacious with jacuzzi and
comfortable bedding. I must give special mention to their breakfast which was
so fresh and delicious, and the staff was highly attentive.
For dinner, again we wanted to experience a local place so
decided to go to the local Barley Creek Brewing,
first microbrewery in the Pocono Mountains known to have brewed more than 100
different styles of beer. I just devoured their pizza and cheese cake.
Next morning, we visited an antique mall, another thing Poconos
is known for. If you get lucky you might spot something as old as 1000 years.
Later, we headed over to one of the most beautiful falls I have
seen, the Bushkill falls,
also known as the ‘Niagara of Pennsylvania’
You must hike to reach closer to the fall. They have four trail
options to choose from. One can opt for an easy trail which takes around 15
minutes, moderate or one of the two hikers’ trail which is over 2 hours of hike.
I loved hiking with my husband and we did stop on the way to
capture some beautiful views and scenery.
So, if you’re planning a summer weekend getaway, make sure you
don’t miss out their adventure at Camelback Mountains, Kayaking, local food and
Bushkill falls.
